The Penny Black was the world´s first adhesive postage stamp used in a public postal system. It was issued in Britain on 1 May 1840, for official use from 6 May 1840.

The probably best known stamp of the world is the blue Mauritius. But the blue as well as the red Mauritius are not the most valuable ones or the rarest stamps gives. 8 schould exist of the blue Mauritius worldwide used and 4 unused specimes. Of the red Mauritius exist twelve of those used and two unused specimens. The Stamps became famous and rare, because the creator of the stamp, Jules Bemard, attached "post paid", and not ""post office"" beside the head of the Queen Victoria.

The normal three skilling stamp printed in Sweden is colored green while the eight skilling stamp was printed in yellow. However, due to an unkown error, the three skilling stamp was printed in yellow, creating the Treskilling Yellow Stamp.

This most expensive postage stamp is Baden´s first postage stamp and was printed in 1851. Sprung out of an error since green paper was intended for the 6 Kreuzer value, there are only 4 examples of this stamp known at the moment which makes it among the rarest collectible stamps in the world. In the year 2008 one of them was sold for 1,3 mill. €.

In the year 1897 printed and part of a trial printing, there are only 9 examples of what is recognized as the most expensive Chinese stamp. This most expensive postage stamp is valued at nearly 1,2 mill. USD.
